Norn is a comic book first script editor.

Norn is designed by comic book writer Torunn Grønbekk. It is made to be a storytelling tool that helps you from idea to finished script.

Norn works in any modern desktop browser. Making it work well on mobile browsers is something we hope to do in the future.

Plan your issue
Use the outline tab to write your outline, and the pages tab to place your story beats and get a sense of the pacing

From Paragraphs to Beats

Drag your «beats» to plan out your issue. Add your own beats by pressing the + on your page.

Link pages into scenes

You can link pages together for scenes running over several pages. Select the pages you want and press enter.

Play around with your issue. Drag and drop pages and beats until you're happy with the pacing.

Beats and titles

On the top of your script page, you can choose to view your beats/notes for each page. (It will not be part of the final script, unless you want it to.)

Automatic formatting

All pages and panels are automatically numbered. The script is exported to an easy-to-copy-from word file, for your letterer.

As single pages or full script. Page + peek gives you a peek at your previous and next page in the sidebar.

(Our files are saved as JSON, and could easily be parsed and imported in other apps, too.)

Make the editor you own

Settings

The goal is to let you customize your editor. Under settings, you can: 

  • Decide which choices you get under the «picker» when you write the script
  • Choose and add dialogue and caption modifiers (you can also add these when you write the script)
  • Choose how you like to use your keyboard

Helper

You find your helper in the bottom left corner. Here you can:

  • Change fonts
  • Choose script format (classic vs modern)
  • Change your panel format
  • Turn «beats» on or off on your script page
  • Turn word warning on or off
  • Change body size
  • Start pomodoro session

Dark mode

You can use Norn in day/night mode, or have it change with the settings on your computer. Choose your theme under profile

Pomodoro timer

Specific intentions outperform general goals. Simple and well-documented commitment device that works.

Export to doc or PDF

You can export to Word or a PDF file. You have some export options, but we're working on more!
